People are not always loving.
I see it day to day.
People do possess the capacity to be rational.
I use my own, and I am not special.
My rationality suggests that it is best to be loving.
For I do not enjoy when others are not so to me, to others, nor to themselves.
And it does not seem plausible for a rationally reasoned person to enjoy such an end.
And only so am I loving.
Rational reason is the means to a loving end.
Be rational.
Be reasonable.
And in doing so, be loving.
To all.
You should read Adam Smith’s Theory of Moral Sentiments. He argues in the small book that man (people), by nature, want to be loved–but more importantly–they want to be lovely. You could also read Russ Roberts’ How Adam Smith Can Change Your Life (it’s probably even shorter, and he essentially explains the former book and its implications).
